Star-Mar Rescue

Star-Mar Rescue was founded in 2003 and has re homed over 2000 dogs. Star-Mar Rescue is run by Martha Leary, assisted by dedicated foster providers and supporters and located on 26 rural acres in beautiful Wayne County Ohio.

Star-Mar Rescue pulls dogs from shelters, takes in owner surrendered dogs and rescues dogs from the area's many puppy mills. We are active supporters of animal legislation in our State.

All Star-Mar Rescue dogs are housed in foster homes. Dogs stay in our program until we have corrected any issues they many have. We asses their activity level and expose them to different situations so that we know if they are good with children, other dogs, cats and livestock. Our adoptions require homes visits, vet and reference checks and a fenced area for our dogs.

All dogs are spayed and neutered prior to adoption, no exceptions. We offer a very holistic approach to the care of our dogs, feed a species appropriate, balanced raw diet, use non toxic/non chemical methods for heart worm and flea prevention, follow a reduced vaccine protocol and use energy modalities, chiropractic and laser therapy along with traditional vetting for our dogs.

Star-Mar Rescue has a reputation of taking in dogs with major medical issues as we work very closely with and are greatly supported by our vets.

Gus is one of several senior dogs that we have in rescue. Seniors are much harder to place and sometimes need extra support from rescue. We are BIG senior lovers here and feel that they deserve a loving and caring home in their final years. Meet Gus, Yorkie/Cairn mix, one of our devoted, perfectly behaved, stunning seniors!
